Municipal Chief Executive and Hon Member of Parliament present Sanitary Products to Adolescent Girls in the Municipality

Basic School girls in the Municipality were last Friday presented with quantities of sanitary pads. Each girl received four packages as the first tranche. The Municipal Chief Executive(MCE), Rudolph Collingwoode-Williams, presenting the pads urged the girls not to see the menstrual period as an excuse to skip school but rather be energised to go about
their normal duties without any hindrances since it is a devine moment that ushers young girls into
adulthood. He said plans are also far advanced to provide schools in the area with the needed logistics and other materials to promote education in all public schools.

The Principal Nursing Officer at the Municipal Health Directorate, urged the girls not to panic or feel shy during their Periods but rather take good care of their personal hygiene by bathing twice a day as well washing their underwears and sun drying them. She charged them to change their pads while in school in order to stay clean throughout the day.

The Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Abdul Rauf Tubazu, said the package formed part of government’s resetting agenda to promote girl child education. According to him, no girl should
be allowed to stay out of school through no fault of theirs . The pads he indicated are standerdised with special features to protect them at all times and urged them not to burden their parents any more during such times as government has taken that burden off the shoulders of parents. The MP urged the girls to take their education seriously as mouth watering scholarships will be made available upon completion of school.

Municipal Chief Executive Visits Schools in the Municipality ahead of the 2025 BECE

The Municipal Chief Executive of the Ayawaso Central Municipal Assembly together with the Coordinating Director, the Director of Education and some Assembly members visited a couple of centers for this years BECE to wish students the very best in their external exams.

A total of 1799 students from 61 schools are sitting for this years BECE in Ten(10)Centres. The MCE visited all 10 centres and assured the students of various scholarship packages that would be made available to them if they pass the exams.

He also assured the students that the Member of Parliament of the constituency has pledged his support to award the best student at the end of the examination. He motivated them and wished them well. Exams began at exactly 9am across the various examination centers, with one centre recording two absentees.

The Ayawaso Central Municipal Assembly on May 15, 2025 held a Community Engagement Forum (Needs Assessment and Community Action Plan) for the preparation of the District Medium Term Development Plan (2026-2029). This was done to gather public views and inputs to prepare the next MTDP. The Medium-Term Development Plan (MTDP) is a statutory requirement under the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936).

It is also conducted in accordance with National Development Planning System Act, 1994 (Act 480) and the National Development Planning System Regulations, 2016 (L.I. 2232). PARLIAMENTARY SELECT COMMITTEE ON SANITATION AND WATER RESOURCES VISIT AYAWASO CENTRAL MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY

The Parliamentary Select Committee on Sanitation and Water Resources paid a working visit to the Ayawaso Central Municipal Assembly on Monday 14th April, 2025. The Committee, led by its Chairman, Mr. John Oti Bless were received by the Coordinating Director and a cross section of Heads of Department of the Assembly.

The Team interacted with the Staff of the Assembly and familiarized themselves with the Sanitation issues of the Municipality. The Visit forms part of efforts by the Government to strengthen interventions aimed at reducing sanitation related diseases and improving waste management in the country. Mr Bless, who is also the Member of Par­liament (MP) for Nkwanta North, in the Oti Region, said the government was committed to tackling sanitation and waste manage­ment issues, noting that accurate data from assemblies was critical to finding effective solutions to the problem.

The Ayawaso Central Municipal Assembly has marked Ghana’s 68th Independence Anniversary Celebration under the theme “REFLECT, REVIEW, RESET”. The Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Ishmael Nana Ogyefo in his address stated that this years theme is a call to action to make deliberate and thoughtful changes in the way Ghanaians think, act and govern. He stated that it was a day to remember our Founders who fought for our freedom and sovereignty. “ It is not just a call for national introspection, but rather a powerful reminder that as a country, we must be willing to critically engage with our past, honestly review our present and reset our course towards an even brighter future” he reiterated.

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo on Tuesday, 4th February engaged and interacted with key authorities and stakeholders at Circle to address key issues including Sanitation, Congestion and Security.

She stressed on the importance of collaboration to find sustainable solutions that enhance safety, economic activities and a more organized marketplace for all.

AYAWASO CENTRAL:  NYA organises three days Entrepreneurship and Business Management training for young entrepreneurs in collaboration with African Skills Hub (ASH) at Haavad Senior High school in the municipality.

The Ayawaso Central National Youth authority and ASH on 17th to 19th trained seventy-four young entrepreneurs.   The training aimed at providing trainees with the requisite knowledge and tools needed to identity market opportunities and develop viable business ideas.

Also to provide business owners with the assistance they needed to effectively run their businesses.

The facilitator Edna Amponsah stressed on the need for entrepreneurs need to have business plan, she said

 

Business plan which will state what the entrepreneur intend doing and where he want to get to  and further said they have to  a budget, and record every transection they do.

REPORT ON OPEN FORUM FOR SOME SELECTED SCHOOLS WITHIN THE MUNICIPALITY ON THE RIGHT TO INFORMATION LAW

INTRODUCTION

The forum was scheduled for 3rd and 4th July, 2024 by the Right to Information Unit of the Ayawaso Central Municipal Assembly. It was aimed at educating the students on their fundamental right to access information from public institution and the processes to request for Information under Article 21 (1) f of the constitution and Act 989 of the RTI law.

 

As part of Government’s effort to promote and implement the Right to Information Act 989, (Act 2019)

The Right to Information Unit of the Ayawaso Central Municipal Assembly (ACMA) in collaboration with the Access to Information division (ATI) of the Information Services Department (ISD), Ministry of Information on Wednesday, 3rd July 2024 and Thursday, 4th July 2024 educated the Accra Technical Training Center (ATTC) and Harvard College on the Right to Information Law.

The sensitization Education started with a welcome address from the Right to Information Officer of Ayawaso Central Municipal Assembly Mr. Abebreseh Terry Abray who indicates the purpose of the education saying that “The RTI law Act 989 is a sunshine legislation. The law helps us to enjoy our fundamental freedoms, makes institutions more transparent and accountable in providing factual information to the public and encourages public participation in matters that concern them.

Facilitators of the training Mr. Senanu Nyadroh and Mr. Israel Dentor from the Access to Information Division (ATID) took time to expound on the topics of the Background, application process, Exemptions and the decision of the Commission on the Right to Information Act.

The sensitization Informed the students about the details of the  implementation as stated in the constitutional right to Information held by public institutions, subject to the exemptions that are necessary and consistent with the protection of public interest in a democratic society.

The Education also saw an interactive session where the students had the opportunity to ask questions and make contributions to the conversation.

In conclusion, the forum was successful and saw students actively engage Resource Persons on the RTI Law.
