Arts and crafts ’training program is an annual program implemented by the Culture Department and it is designed to help the unemployed youth in the municipality attain skills to enable them earn some income.
This helps them to provide for their needs and not to be a liability to society.
The Arts and Craft Program Aims At:
• Heightening of Interest in Made in Ghana products, thereby promoting patronage.
• Providing Employment for the youth in the municipality.
The training took place at Alajo Central Pentecost Church.
A total of 20 People took part in the training with 18 being Females and 2 Males.
BEAD MAKING
The first part of the training which iis bead making took two weeks to complete. The beading started with simple necklace, earrings and bangles and moved on to the weaving of bead purse which took them a week, followed by the making of slippers and other complex necklace, earrings and bangles.
MACRAME
The third week was used for macramé.
Macramé is the weaving of cords to create craft items such as table mat, wall hanging, Door mat, Bags, Curtains, Pillow case, to mention few,
The trainees were thought how to weave with cords, where each of them chose any of the above list craft items as a project to work on.
After three weeks of intensive training, the program came to an end. The training program was successful and the trainees were satisfied with what they have learnt.
