The statistical department is established at MMDAs as per second schedule of the Local Government Service Act,2016(Act 936).

The Statistical Department aspire to provide reliable and response statistical service for good governance and development.
To harness, produce and manage quality local level statistics based on national standards using competent staff for evidence-based decision making in support of local and national development
OBJECTIVES OF THE DEPARTMENT
1 To enhance the use of statistics for evidence-based decision making.
2 Harmonize concept, methods and classification used in production of statistics at all level.
3 Assist the Assembly to mobilize revenue for development.
4 Systematize the collation of administration data cross sectors and geographical unit.
5 Reinforce the coordination of statistics generation, compilation, analyze, storage, archiving and dissemination across department within the Assembly.
General Functions and Responsibilities of the statistics Department
- To collect, store, and analyze data based on standardized format developed by the Ghana statistical service
- Advice Assembly on all matters relating to statistics
- Disseminate and publish statistical data based on guideline developed by Ghana Statistical services
- Coordinate statistics activity
